Child Safety Standards

DiaryOftheDead, published by Momentum Labs by Conde, is a digital memorial and remembrance platform. These Child Safety Standards apply to the DiaryOftheDead mobile app (Android package com.condelab.diaryofthedead), the iOS app, and the web product at diaryofthedead.app.

We operate a zero-tolerance policy toward child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) and child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

1. Prohibited Content and Behavior

The following are strictly prohibited on DiaryOftheDead:

  • Any content that sexually exploits, endangers, or sexualizes a minor (anyone under 18).
  • Imagery, video, audio, text, links, or derivative media depicting child sexual abuse (CSAM).
  • Grooming — attempts to contact, befriend, or build trust with a minor for the purpose of exploitation.
  • Sharing, distributing, soliciting, trading, or advertising CSAM.
  • Non-consensual intimate imagery of any person, and especially of minors.
  • Sextortion, sexualized threats, or coerced nudity involving a minor.
  • Any attempt to facilitate inappropriate contact with minors through comments, messages, diary posts, or third-party links.

2. Age Requirement

DiaryOftheDead is not intended for, and is not directed to, children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Memorial content about a child who has passed away may be created by an adult family member or legal guardian; memorial content is not a profile of a living child and must never include sexualized depictions.

If we discover that a user under 13 has registered an account, we will disable the account and delete the associated personal data. Parents and guardians may request deletion at any time via the contact channels below.

3. How We Enforce These Standards

Proactive measures

  • Upload scanning. Images and video uploaded to DiaryOftheDead are screened against industry hash lists (including NCMEC-provided signatures) before publication.
  • Keyword and metadata filters. Diary text, comments, and link previews are run through filters that flag CSAE-adjacent keywords for human review.
  • Rate limits and signal-based detection. Behavioral signals (burst uploads, grooming-pattern messaging, repeat violations) automatically suspend accounts pending review.

User reporting

  • Every diary, tribute, comment, and profile in the DiaryOftheDead app has a Report action. Reports flagged as child safety are routed to a priority queue and reviewed by our trust and safety team on a 24-hour SLA.
  • Reports may also be submitted via email to [email protected].

Response

When CSAE content or behavior is identified or credibly reported, we:

  1. Immediately remove the content and suspend the account pending review.
  2. Permanently ban the offending account on confirmation.
  3. Report the incident to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) CyberTipline and, where applicable, to law enforcement in the affected jurisdictions.
  4. Preserve the relevant evidence and metadata in accordance with 18 U.S.C. § 2258A and equivalent laws.
  5. Cooperate with lawful investigations by producing records in response to valid legal process.

4. Reporting CSAE

If you see child exploitation material or behavior on DiaryOftheDead, report it immediately.

  • In the app: Open the offending content → tap the More menu → tap Report → select Child safety.
  • By email: [email protected] (monitored by the DiaryOftheDead trust and safety team).
  • NCMEC CyberTipline (U.S.): cybertipline.org or 1-800-843-5678.
  • Emergency: If a child is in immediate danger, contact local law enforcement first.

5. Child Safety Point of Contact

6. Training and Governance

  • All moderators complete onboarding training on recognizing CSAE and grooming indicators, and on trauma-aware handling of reports.
  • Our standards are reviewed at least annually and whenever platform functionality changes (new media types, new messaging surfaces, new integrations).
  • Engineering changes that affect moderation paths require sign-off by the Child Safety Lead before release.

7. Regulatory Compliance

DiaryOftheDead complies with all applicable child safety laws and regulations, including:

  • U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), 15 U.S.C. § 6501 et seq.
  • U.S. 18 U.S.C. § 2258A reporting obligations to NCMEC.
  • EU Digital Services Act (DSA) notice-and-action obligations for in-scope users.
  • Google Play Child Safety Standards policy for social and dating apps.
  • Apple App Store Review Guideline 1.3 (Kids Category and related child-safety requirements).

8. Updates to These Standards

We may update these Child Safety Standards as our product, threat landscape, or applicable law evolves. Material changes will be reflected in the Last updated date at the top of this document, and substantive changes will be announced in-app.
